Counterpane Journey

A beloved event in our community, Counterpane Journey (formerly Silent Journey), is a "day in the life" experience for our families.

During this event, parents, guardians, and caregivers are invited to spend a day immersed in the Montessori philosophy, exploring our learning environment and engaging in work as a student in each of our classrooms.

a quest for discovery

Beginning in Primary, adults will progress through each classroom, participating in the same work, activities, and discussions as the students. They will interact with materials, receive lessons from the teachers, and develop a richer understanding of the Montessori method: seeing clearly the crucial role environment plays in learning.

a sense of belonging

Not only will parents and family members gain a deeper appreciation for the Montessori Method but they will bond with their fellow "students" who take this journey with them. They will work and play together just as their children do, forming not just a class but a true community. At the end of the journey they will have a discussion with the teachers and reflect on an experience that often opens their eyes in ways they never expected.

“The child has a different relation to his environment from ours… the child absorbs it. The things he sees are not just remembered; they form part of his soul.
- Dr. Maria Montessori
